Gideon Commey

Co-Founder and Director
Gideon Commey is an activist, researcher, and policy specialist focused on environmental issues, climate change, and agri-food systems. He earned his undergraduate degree in Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Ghana and went on to pursue a Master’s in Environment and Sustainable Development at University College London (UCL).
Gideon founded the Ghana Youth Environmental Movement (GYEM), a youth-led organization dedicated to environmental advocacy and campaigns. He led the movement for over six years after its inception, during which he significantly impacted the communities he worked with, showcasing his ability to inspire change and lead effectively.
Passionate about collaborating with multiple stakeholders and partners, Gideon aims to transform food production, nutrition, wellbeing, and livelihoods in Ghanaian communities. He previously served as a Policy Advisor at the UK Government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), where he led the evaluation of a program assessing approaches to environmental and farming regulations. He is currently a PhD candidate in Food Systems at UCL.
